Collection: FLEECE

Vintage fleece apparel, especially from the late 1980s and 1990s, has become a cornerstone of both sustainable fashion and streetwear, celebrated for its cozy warmth, lightweight comfort, and durable construction that offers a unique blend of nostalgia and practicality. Key players in this market include Patagonia, whose iconic Synchilla snap-t pullover defined the genre with its soft, quick-drying fabric and simple chest pocket, and the more robust Retro-X jacket, known for its plush, high-pile exterior and windproof barrier lining that make it a highly coveted and durable piece of outerwear. The North Face also holds a significant place with their classic Denali jacket, a technical fleece originally designed for mountaineers that has since become a popular casual staple, often recognizable by its distinctive nylon shoulder and elbow overlays.
The most rare and sought-after Patagonia fleeces are "grail" pieces from the 1990s and early 2000s, often distinguished by limited-run prints or short-lived technical lines. Topping many collectors' lists is the 1997 "Thunder" reversible Glissade jacket, featuring electric bolt imagery, which can command prices over $2,000. Other elite prints include the 1998 "Spiral" and the 1994 "Bullseye" pullovers, both of which are notoriously difficult to find outside of dedicated Japanese vintage markets. Within the deep-pile category, the Retro Rhythm Hoodie (produced around 2003–2005) is a major collector's item due to its unique hood and absence of traditional branding; rare colorways like Cactus or Tequila can reach resale values between $1,500 and $2,800. Early production oddities are also highly prized, such as the 1985 Quilted Polypropylene—an "ugly duckling" that was quickly discontinued—and rare USA-made mosaic or Aztec geometric Synchilla prints from the early 90s, which regularly sell for several hundred dollars.
Beyond these major brands, the appeal of vintage fleece extends to the unique and often eccentric prints that capture the maximalist style of the era. Animal prints, such as leopard spots or bear motifs, offer a playful aesthetic, while abstract patterns, like colourful geometric shapes or vibrant, wavy designs reminiscent of 90s graphic art, are highly sought after for their individuality. These bold designs from lesser-known brands or vintage one-off pieces can be as desirable as the brand-name classics. The value of these items in modern fashion lies in their authentic retro charm, the quality of the fleece that has stood the test of time, and their alignment with contemporary trends that favour sustainable, distinctive, and comfortable clothing that makes a statement.
